Abito (1959)

Rome, early-fifties. The Fontana sisters, at the peak of their worldwide success, hold the Premio Pittura Sorelle Fontana. Dieci pittori per dieci vestiti (‘Fontana Sisters Painting Award. Ten painters for ten dresses’) annual contest, with fashion exhibits in Rome and New York. Nuvolo takes part in the 1959 edition of the contest (dedicated to abstract art), winning the first prize. The two silk factories Bedetti and Pedraglio, based in Como (Italy) recreate the artist’s winning piece on silk, leading to three different cocktail dresses. Today only one of the dresses is perfectly preserved at the Micol Fontana Foundation, Rome.
