Oigroig (1965-1979)

The decennial cycle of the “Oigroig” (1967-1977) inaugurates a deep imaginative constellation of kaleidoscopic forms in nitro colours. The general effect is an ultra-chromatic universe of changing visual suggestions of specular figures. The series’ name is taken from the author’s name, Giorgio, backwards. This originates from his personal research on the concept of ‘double’ and bilateral symmetry, which finds a material equivalent in the silkscreen technique adopted for the experiment. The use of transparent paper and the application of fluid mechanics theory allows the silkscreen to print only on the folded half of the canvas, which generates a simultaneous image on the other half, similar to the wings of a butterfly.
