During his directorship, excellent professors included Osvaldo Ciarapica, Aldo Cicinelli, Bruno Cor\u00e0, Granfranco Ercolanoni, Fabrizio Fabbroni, Antonio Gatto, Aldo Iori, Romeo Mancini, Bruno Marcelloni, Eliseo Mattiacci, Stefano Miccolis, Antonio Todini, Stanislao Segapeli, Adriano Urbano and Domenico Valentino.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1980 Nuvolo together with Bruno Cor\u00e0, have been organizing meetings with artists and critics entitled Encounter with the artist and his work. Students, other Academy faculty and outside experts are called upon to participate in the meetings; artists hosted at the Academy include Marco Bagnoli and Enrico Castellani (1980), Michelangelo Pistoletto and Giulio Paolini (1982), Luciano Fabro, Mario and Marisa Merz, Sol Lewitt (1983), Carla Accardi, Giulio Decima, Edgardo Mannucci, Guido Strazza and Emilio Villa (1984).<\/p>\n<p>Significant is the 1982 group show Pre\/visioni, a didactic exhibition publicly documenting the Academy&#8217;s activities since 1979 through student work in the spaces of San Francesco al Prato.<\/p>\n<p>Various students and fellow professors have remembered him in this capacity in the memoir Nuvolo C&#8217;ho da fare edited by Associazione Archivio Nuvolo and published by Petruzzi Editore in 2019, below are some quotes:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab[&#8230;] With the arrival of Giorgio Ascani Nuvolo, a radical change was activated, competitions were held, young and prepared professors arrived, but the thing that Nuvolo taught us, right from the start, was to get out of academism and give students the best of us through a direct and close relationship of work and study. With him began a serious path into the world of painting, photography, set design and sculpture. [&#8230;]\u00bb (F. Fabroni)<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab[&#8230;] The Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia, in those years under Nuvolo&#8217;s direction, was a place where one truly breathed art and freedom. The painting classroom was spacious and brightly lit, and Nuvolo held the chair. Always present, he welcomed those who entered by sitting at the end of the large tables that occupied the room. The goal at the Academy seemed to be to encourage freedom of expression and urge students to open their minds. [&#8230;]\u00bb (S. Frillici)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab[&#8230;] Nuvolo&#8217;s presence at the Academy was supported by a few, opposed by some and ill-digested by many, but his strategy of bringing there the most important figures of the time made people talk about the Academy in Perugia much more outside than in the district, I remember many figures in the international art world offering themselves for dinner and a stay to lecture in the very small and magnificent library. Ramotto)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab[&#8230;] Nuvolo was a director with a lot of authority and knew how to make everyone a participant in the educational project undertaken and shared; he demanded from us, consenting, a participatory and in some aspects totalizing adherence. It seemed to be part of something that could remind us of other educational experiences of the current century. [&#8230;]\u00bb (A. Iori)<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab[&#8230;] He loved to offer us students every place, every space of that wonderful building that is San Francesco al Prato, we felt like the owners of classrooms, library, gipsoteca, and even in the room where his direction was located there was a constant coming and going. Giorgio Ascani Nuvolo used to spend his time in the classrooms or near the large table in the painting room, of which he was a teacher, flanked by the artist Antonio Gatto, to indicate, to those who requested it, a way forward, with small but invaluable suggestions. [&#8230;]\u00bb (V. Mazzoni)<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab[&#8230;] By pure chance I enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia. It was &#8217;78 and I found myself in that period known for political contestations and whatnot, which naturally invested even the highest offices of the institution, such as the director, for example. In that first year of attendance I had no particular incentive to continue. The faculty seemed to me not very ac\u00accommodating to the needs of the pupils. Only in the following years did personalities such as Nuvolo and Bruno Cor\u00e0 come to join the Academy. Nuvolo became the director of the Academy. I thus found myself, almost without realizing it, projected into that ma\u00acgic fervor of understanding the contemporary that accompanied me until my graduation year and beyond. [&#8230;]\u00bb (Karp\u00fcseeler)<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab[&#8230;] Nuvolo&#8217;s first sentence was precisely the following: &#8216;You are here either because you are crazy or because you are very special.&#8217; I almost felt proud for es\u00acsing special, but also for being mad. Second sentence, &#8220;You must forget everything you have learned so far, because now begins another phase of your life as a more innovative and experimental artistic experience.&#8221; Al\u00e9-what did he mean by that? This man with a face more like a scientist than an artist? [&#8230;]\u00bb (U. Inatchi)<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab[&#8230;] The professor enters the painting room with thick glasses and shaggy white hair. It is the first day of Academic Year 85\/86. He looks at us and gives us the welcome speech. What I remember, in the summary, was stressing respect for that paganically sacred place and demanding awareness, which was basically breaking the sinews of those who imagined themselves new and unique without going through the material.
