2026: One hundred years of Giorgio Ascani Nuvolo. Prince of screen printing.

The program for the Centenary of Giorgio Ascani, known as Nuvolo (Città di Castello, 1926-2026), will be presented on Sunday, October 12, at 4:30 p.m., in the Municipal Art Gallery of Città di Castello, the almost exclusive setting for the events. Nuvolo Centenary, promoted by the Municipality of Città di Castello and the Nuvolo Archive, will be primarily an opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of the work of an artist considered a pioneer of screen printing techniques applied to the arts.
The Nuvolo Archive Association, in collaboration with the Ascani family and the Municipality of Città di Castello, has planned a series of events for the occasion, which will take place throughout 2026 and will mainly concern the artist’s hometown, where, thanks to the donation of fifteen works by the Ascani family in 2015, the Sala Nuvolo has been set up in the contemporary art section of the Pinacoteca Comunale di Città di Castello.

“From an artistic point of view, we expect a year of fireworks,” says Bruno Corà, art historian and critic and President of the Fondazione Palazzo Albizzini, Collezione Burri. “Artifice” in the sense that we will see many pictorial phases and thus be able to appreciate the protean production that Nuvolo has created over the course of fifty years. He was somewhat of a Leonardo-esque artist because he used all techniques and, above all, he was the prince of screen printing, that is, the one who used it for artistic purposes in the absolute sense, not only for reproduction but also for direct creation.”
