“Intersezioni” and “Sistemi” at Montrasio Arte in Monza

Montrasio Arte‘s fall exhibition season, at its headquarters at 19 Via E. De Amicis in Monza, opens with the exhibitions “Intersezioni”, curated by Lorenzo Fiorucci and “Sistemi”, curated by Azalea Seratoni.

As stated in the gallery’s press release, Intersezioni “proposes a dialogue between six Masters of the last century: Alberto Burri and Mario Ballocco, founders of the Origine Group; Leoncillo and Fausto Melotti, forerunners of ceramic plastic; Franco Bemporad and Nuvolo, protagonists of a research that was as independent as it was sophisticated. The practice of dialogue so dear to the dynamics of Montrasio Arte since its beginnings finds in this new exhibition a synthesis among some of the most important figures of the last century, highlighting both their symmetries and asymmetries. Alberto Burri is the pivot around which the exhibition project is developed, Ballocco’s companion from the time of the Origine experience, a friend of Bemporad whom he hosted for a brief period in his studio in Rome and certainly influenced his beginnings, Nuvolo also from tifernate, as well as Umbrian is Leoncillo, and finally Melotti with whom he will share all the most important exhibitions dedicated to Italian art of the second half of the twentieth century.”

The exhibition period runs from Oct. 3 to Nov. 25, 2023 (vernissage Monday, Oct. 2, 7 p.m.), and will be open to visitors with the following hours: Tuesday through Saturday 10-12:30 a.m. and 3:30-7 p.m.

Montrasio Arte was founded in Monza in 1939. Today the gallery is dedicated to curating historical and contemporary exhibitions that cast a critical and innovative eye on the work of established artists whose works have been somewhat neglected. Beginning in 1965 it organized a very rich exhibition program oriented toward contemporary art, the most important solo shows include: Renato Birolli, Alfredo Chighine, Roberto Crippa, Lucio Fontana, Fausto Melotti, Ennio Morlotti, Emilio Scanavino, Tancredi Parmeggiani, Floriano Bodini, Leonardo Cremonini, Renato Guttuso, Karl Plattner, Antonio Recalcati, Bepi Romagnoni, and Giuseppe Zigaina. Since 1990 the gallery has been directed by Francesca and Ruggero Montrasio, the third generation of the family. From this time it began to focus on international artists, such as Joseph Beuys, Christo & Jeanne-Claude, Dennis Oppenheim, Reuven Israel, Salvatore Scarpitta. Since its foundation, Montrasio Arte has collaborated with important national and international Museums and Institutions. In 2001 Montrasio Arte opened a new gallery in Milan in the historic Brera district. In 2007 Montrasio Arte created the Harlem Studio Fellowship, a nonprofit artist residency program in New York. Since the creation of the Milan office in 2001, Montrasio Arte has been producing, exhibiting, and promoting the works of young artists, often relating them to the Master’s works.
